“Jenny, how do you stay so positive and continue to seek joy when life throws a bunch of 💩 at you?” That’s a question I get asked fairly often.
I am fortunate to have a God-given ability to cope with quite a bit. I am also fortunate that my mom discovered Reiki as a means for our family to let go of negativity and enjoy the time we had left together, when I was told I had 4-6 months left to live. That was over 20 years ago! What was supposed to serve as a way to relieve stress turned into a life saver. After discovering reiki, my mom took a class and started treating me twice a week. In a matter of exactly three weeks my hemoglobin went from dangerously low levels to completely normal.
Was it magic? An unknown cure-all? Nope. The Reiki allowed me to release stress and my body to stop fighting off the stress hormones triggered by that stress. When it was no longer fighting off adrenaline, cortisol, and other hormones my body had the chance to do its thing and begin to heal itself. It was never a cure. I’m still chronically anemic and need medical intervention to treat the anemia. What I am, though, is healed. Being healed means being being in the best possible state for the state you’re in.
My mom continued her Reiki training and eventually became my teacher. While I no longer practice my Reiki as a business, I do still occasionally treat family and friends. I also practice Reiki on myself daily, and even more frequently in times of high stress. It’s one of the most important tools I use to keep positive and remind myself of all the joy in the world.
Have you ever tried Reiki or another form of alternative medicine as a stress reliever?
